Mott Haven, the loft conversions, and the closets they never had.

Our studio sits on Canal Place in Mott Haven, so this is the neighborhood we know best. In the last decade the South Bronx has changed fast: old warehouses and piano factories near the Harlem River have become lofts, new rental towers have gone up along the waterfront, and the brick row houses on the side streets have been renovated room by room. Almost none of these homes came with enough closet space.

Loft conversions

Converted factory buildings in Mott Haven and Port Morris have high ceilings, big steel windows and brick walls, but no interior walls to build closets against. A freestanding closet wall, finished on both sides, can divide a sleeping area from the living space and store a full wardrobe. Open oak systems with lit hanging bays suit the industrial shell; painted doors make the wall disappear.

New waterfront rentals

The newer towers near the Harlem River tend to have one small reach-in per bedroom. Many tenants can't make permanent changes, so we design closet interiors that fit the existing opening and can be removed when you move, or wardrobe walls with landlord approval.

Row houses and brownstones

The South Bronx's row houses have narrow bedrooms, shallow closets under stairs and deep alcoves beside chimneys. A built-in wardrobe in the alcove, or a reworked under-stair closet with pull-outs, adds storage without taking floor space.

Visiting the studio

Because we're local, Bronx clients can see finish samples and talk through drawings at the studio before anything is ordered. Bring a floor plan or photos and rough measurements.

Building rules

Rental buildings and co-ops usually need approval and insurance certificates before installation. We prepare drawings and certificates that meet the building's requirements. Kloset Worx is licensed, insured and EPA lead-safe certified for older buildings.
